What does "modified Browning locking system" mean for the recoil operated action of the HK USP?

I have the USP .45 H&K and it is an awesome gun. The recoil is light to moderate and it is very easy to stay on target if you are a decent shot. I think you would be more than pleased with the gun.

Basically the locking system is the operation/action the gun uses when firing. It has a spring and slide with a tilted barrel with a rubber o-ring which improves barrel to slide fit and enhances the accuracy. The gun is also very easy to disassemble for cleaning.

I'm all about that DA/SA, hammer-fired, locked breech. I guess the tilting barrel and that robber o-ring for recoil is the modification they speak of.

I'm sure a Heckler & Koch on my hip would be nice.

I wonder just how corrosion resistant that "hostile environment" blueing is. I'm all about corrosion resistance now. My stainless steel P95 has spoiled me on that. It's so nice not to have to even wipe it down.

That was my understanding anyway. The rubber o-ring and tilting barrel are probably the key aspect. Go to your local gun dealer and take one apart to check it out.

As for the blueing, so far I have not had any problems other than a few very tiny little spots on the external upper of the gun, but there hardly noticeable. I always wipe it down with an oil rag after handling it and then keep it in the case.

For blued finish, I need to try out a "waterproof" holster. One they say doesn't let moisture through. It's not just moisture from sweat, but body heat causes condensation on the gun sometimes, so I wonder how well those holsters keep heat out.
It's not that big a deal. I just have to give a good wipe-down everyday.

I've always just stored mine in the H&K case it came in. So far no problems.

I used to be a firearms instructor... I LOVE the HK because its designed to use your trigger finger to release the magazine.. takes a little bit to get used to, but once you do it much faster then using your thumb on the opposite side.. great gun

I noticed that. I looked at a couple yesterday. My Ruger P95 has an ambi mag-release that can operate like that.

I'm looking for a .45acp, and I believe I'm sold on the Springfield XD. 13+1 capacity. The gun felt great in my hand, and it seems that it'd be on the comfy side for mid-size .45s. And that hi-capacity is what I like.

I use a nylon type holster at the range.

I agree with you on the HK. It is simple and fast to eject the mag. As for my XDM 9mm, it is a pain in the ass and the only thing I don't like about the XDM.

ohh...the G21. I actually got to thumbing through the Glocks yesterday as well, and got my hands on that "slim-frame" 21. The frame may be slim, but that silde is a block. I know it has to throw .45caliber rounds, but so does the XD. and the XD.45 had a narrow slide. If I get a striker-fired pistol, it'll be that XD.

I don't know what it is they mix in the metal of those Glocks, but they have a gravitational pull to them. It's hard to resist. I'm proud to say that I've been capable of resisting all these years. Don't get me wrong. Great, proven pistols, those Glocks are. And there was a time that I was about to own one, but I've learned there is a more suitable utility, tactical, blocky pistol for my likes.
