Tweet$180 is indeed a lot of money even for a well known artist. I don't care who he is, 99% of artist get paid about $100. $2000 is alot of cash.
My advice to you is, look for someone else.
TweetOk, Ive been searching for a VERY long time to find the perfect artist to do a half-sleeve for me,... I'm going to Ed Hardy's in San Francisco...
The artist is VERY well known and does EXCELLENT work,... they charge a flat rate of $180 per hour... I know this is a lot, but is this typical for an elite tattoo artist??
This thing is going to end up costing me nearly $2,000!!

Tweetnot typical, but it's all in how YOU see it. if you feel his talent is worth 180$ an hr, then whats the prob? if you have doubts, move on to someone else....

Tweetyeah, that sounds like alot of tattoo for $200. I'm ready for more ink. Sounds like you're inked up Fuzo. That's badass
TweetI still am inkless, but I love the art. Sounds like you all have some cool tats.
Tweet$125 hour here in STL for our top artists and $180 for someone that works at Ed Hardy's is reasonable for the type of talent there.
Tweetyeah thanks for the info, its a pretty unique and comlicated peice, so I really dont have that much of a problem paying a lot for it being that its freaking permanent...
follow up question:
I know a lot of people tip, but at $180 an hour, is a tip really all that necessary?

Tweetyeah I would think a tip is expected. Its like going to denny's and buying a 10dollar steak or going to some high end place and buying a steak for 60 dollars they still expect that tip.
