The patriot act is a good thing for law abiding Americans. Liberals and the like want it repealed because they have an "anything goes" mentality.
In a time of crisis, as we are in, we must give a little to help defend ourselves. Law abiding citizens have no worries when it comes to the patriot act. Do you have a problem with random drunk-driving checkpoints? Is that a "police state"? It could be construed as one, but obviously it is not.
A police state is one where personal freedoms are curtailed to the government's benefit and people's behaviors are directed by the state--please see North Korea. The patriot act is not designed to do this, our LEGAL behaviors and freedoms are not curtailed or directed by the state. this act is designed to eavesdrop on suspected terror/criminal elements in a desire to preemptively disrupt terror activities. What are people so afraid of? If you're doing nothing wrong, then you should have no worries. Get a grip and be brave. The same people that are screaming about the patriot act will be the same ones screaming about how Bush 'failed us again' if another terror attack comes. What would you have us do? I agree that we need to toughen our borders, but you have the bleeding hearts down there saying how bad we are to deny the illegals a living wage, and how most of the jobs they do wouldnt be done by Americans anyway.

its designed to spy on the terrorists that may be in this country...well at the same time it allows the government to look into the behavior of any normal person, and it takes advantage of that way too often... random drunk driving checkpoint are ok maybe..but its different when they can stop you for no reason at all- which they are now allowed to do in miami.. and yes our personal freedoms are beeing "curtailed" for the governments benefit. we are indeed becoming a more facsist government then a democracy..and on another note bush did not fail us, he is one of many of the elite that are responisble for it.. How are we in a time of crisis anyway? because cnn reports an "orange" alert every other day to keep us desensitized?

are we a police state? no -- but we have many characteristics that are slowly resulting in martial law..

on a side note i take pride in being an american..although it may seem differently..i love america, but when things such as the patriot act are passed without the congress even approving..it frightens me

When you start to give up personal freedoms for security, you will have neither.

There ar some provisions of the act that should be kept and some that should be left up to Presidential descresation. Bit to be able to pull finanical records, medical, library and your email log records on normal citizens, that goes over the line.
If there is suspected illeagle activity, then yes, do these things and more. But it must be proven that there is probale cause

Here's the things guys. It's used to fight terrorism. They don't even have enough man power to do that job, so they aren't going to start branching off and looking into other stuff. It's not a priority for them. It make look like a loss of privacy, maybe it is. But, if it catches terrorist then good. I know i don't have anything to do with those cowardess phuks so I don't feel the Patriot Act will in any way affect me. Like I said, even if they came across somethign other than terror, they don't have the man power to start acting on those things.

With that said, I don't want to give up any freedoms but I don't feel any are being asked to give up. Anything that I don't wany anyone to know is probably something I should be doing. No matter how you slice it, if you are a stand up person then the act will in no way disrupt your life.

solid, the time of crisis we are in is that there are a great many people in the world that we love to turn NY city and LA into downtown Beirut. Notice how there are not carbombings, hijackings, terrorist kidnappings, and homicide bombings at your local Sbarro's here in the USA. its by being preemptive and striking first that you prevent that. we must be aggressive, and if giving a little helps that, Im all for it. I have nothing to hide and I dont care if any one sees my emails or web activity.
A lot of people for a long time have had these conspiracy theories about the government...what was that movie...hmm...oh yes, 'Conspiracy theory'..
I see nothing but good in the patriot act. the liberal democrats are trying to obstruct this president in a time of war in any way they possibly can. it is ridiculous. If bush wanted to give them all $100, they'd complain that it was $200. Its all sour grapes, going back a long way, but IMO, it really got started when Dole got beat, fair and square back in 2000. Thank God Kerry was not elected. He is a complete moron. "I voted for the 87 billion for the troops before I voted against it.." LOLOLOL

the conspiracy is what the media feeds you every day man..believe what you want, its just a shame that "ignorace" (not knowing) is not bliss in this situation.
and again how are we in the time of crisis?? the only crisis we are in is the one our government is putting us in.

by the way im not liberal when it comes to political issues..and your complaining about liberal people when george bush is the one constantly trying to change the constitution, how is that a being a conservative.

Just making sure you meant to say Gore got beat in 2000? Anyways you actually believe we are in a time of crisis? Some republicans also chose not to resign the Patriot Act. If people from your own party are starting to question your motives, then there is something wrong.
