TweetWERE ALL GONNA DIE!!!!
TweetSo, this is the year for the 17-year locusts in Maryland. I understand it's not just Maryland, but a lot of the East Coast.
Have any of you experienced this phenomenom yet? I was in the Army in Washington State 17 years ago so I missed it, but from what I hear, it's awful! Thousands of Cicadas will be coming from the ground around June and will stay around being a general nuisance until the end of the summer.
Now, I wouldn't normally care toooo much, but I realized just how enjoyable this will be the other day while riding my Harley to work.....I got hit in the face by a small beetle...stung like shiat, but then I realized just how bad this summer could be for me and my Harley only wearing a half-helmet! Ok, I know....so buy a full-face helmet. It's just that there is something about having the wind in your face....plus even then, they will be slamming into my chest and body and that isn't pleasant either! Good thing I'm a buff, bodybuilder.....yeah right!
I'd love to hear anyones experiences with the 17-year locusts.

TweetYou are going to get to work and realize you have bruises all over you body from them pelting you - similar to the bruises left from being hit with paintballs - if I were you, I would swerve to avoid hitting them *lmao @ the mental image*

TweetI've never experienced this myself... but while visiting a friends family in Saskatchewan, I got told about the horrible grasshopper infestation they had that summer.
The things they told me just boggled my mind!
Thinks like:
-Lots of car accidents... the road would have so many squished grasshoppers, that it was getting VERY slippery.. cars slideing through intersections and the like.
-Cars overheating. The radiators would get so filled with grasshoppers that the airflow would be blocked and cars would overheat.
-Riding a motorcycle was simply out of the question, and these guys were motorcycle lovers.
- Lost 2/3rds of their crop to the grasshoppers.
- Apparently they'd crawl up the outside walls of buildings and such.. it got so bad in places that you couldn't tell the color of the walls!
Your in for some fun!
RIP BigJim33 & GearedUp: You are sorely missed my friends.
Hindsight is always 20/20. But looking back it's still a bit fuzzy.
TweetThese are quite different from the "standard" cicadas that come out every year. These are like a plague....my parents told me you couldn't walk outside without stepping on them...Originally posted by jipped genes
