Hey, I'm a 21 year old guy who has de3cided to make the transition from "just lifting" to bodybuilding. I am so psyched about it and what I can become, but I have a problem. everybody around me is really down on it for some reason..even some in my family. I'm not sure why it is but its like theyre trying to talk me out of it. I told my mom that i was making the transition and she was like "you don't need to do that..you look fine. you'll get too big" and i was like WTF lol I've been trying to stay around people who can really support me on the issue(even though not many do at all), but i am not sure why anybody cares if I want traps halfway up my neck and a 50 inch chest or not lol. the other thing is that I was always the skinny kid, and now I want to go into this, and I just feel weird talking to other people about it and explaining what I want..even my trainer since its such a big change from what I am now. Still I am SO psyched about starting this and can't wait to see what can come from it and what I can be. you guys ever have these problems when you were starting out? if so how did you deal with them and do you have any advice for a new bb'er? thanks

Well first off welcome to the board.

Dude i know what you mean about people not supporting you especially the parents. My mother is the worst she gets all pissed off at me saying that i am getting too big. She really gets grossed out when i flex my traps. And my dad, he told me "you will never be as big as you want to be" I was thinking WTF this is my dad. But then i thought fuck it, i will prove him wrong.

On the other hand, I rteally appreciate the people that do support me 100%. It is so nice. Besides that and what my dad said it keeps me going.

As far as dealing with it, people may come around, maybe because of the changes in your physique and maybe cause they will see your drive and determination. Just don't let the negatives get to you. Use it to your benefit to drive you more.

      Good Luck brother.

thanks you guys. when I told people that I was going into this, it was almost like I was a leper or something lol everybody gave me a bad look and was like "ugh, why would you want to do that to yourself" like they were disgusted almost. I'm trying right now to just keep my own goals in mind and find some others who share that goal but so far only my trainer is on the support side with me on the issue. I know I can do it and want to attain my long term goal so bad that I can almost feel it (I get all psyched and can feel my heart rate increase as I get alljacked up when I think about and look at all those articles in the mags. I donno if you guys know what i'm talking about here but its like electricity lol) My problem that I deal with the most right now is that I have to believe that it WILL and CAN happen to ME.

I had neg. support only from my mom and dad when I started power lifting, I was 175lb and they would say that " your gonna hert yourself lifting all that weight" they were just concerned but after my first meet they were pretty proud since I took first place.
now that I weigh 200lbs its your getting to big!all I say is that is good just means im getting were I want to be, not really need another 25lbs still.
