Even though ALT and AST tests are referred to as Liver Function Tests they don't actually reflect liver function. All they indicate is that there may be some inflammation of the liver from viruses, infections, alcohol use, paracetamol (tylenol) use, drugs, etc., etc. Real liver function indicators are things that are found in the blood that shouldn't be there or should be there (sounds confusing). Bilirubin shouldn't be in high amounts, it should be broken down. It's a by product of hemoglobin metabolism.
Albumin produced in the liver, too much indicates liver growth or swelling and can cause some kidney issues but not that likely. Easily fixed by hydrating yourself. Too little albumin is an indicator of liver problems. Low platelet count: lots of things cause this but it can be an indicator of liver problems.
