TweetAlways did... Always will but thank you.
TweetFor the first time in probably 15 years or so, blood seeped in the syringe today after aspirating (right glute injection). After hundreds and hundreds (maybe a thousand?)of injections and aspirating, this is the first time I've ever hit a vessel. Needless to say, I pulled it out, swapped the needle for a new/clean one and reinjected on the left glute.
Just a reminder to always aspirate and be safe!

Tweetyep, I had it want to load up with blood last week when I hit my glute. I seem to hit a vein with glute shots more than any other site. And when I hit a vein, it aspirates itself. It's like my blood pressure pushes the plunger back.
Isn't it crazy that most doctors and nurses don't aspirate?!
always always aspirate! Ya never know...ya could be in a main line.
thanks for the reminder!
TweetHorsepwr, I agree. i hit it more in the glute than any other site as well. Probly weekly! lol. I've been unfortunate and hit them many times. Sucks when its tren and you go thru one and inject (not really knowing you hit a vein) and get the cough that about kills you! Thigh and glutes, they get me!
TweetMy GF is a nurse and she told me that a lot of the techs/nurses at her hospital don't aspirate when they do IM injections. WTF? Good to know that people are in such capable hands...LOL

TweetI've never had a nurse aspirate, it might just depend on what they are in injecting or that they can feel the pressure when they are in the vein, but I think we make a bigger deal about this than it really is, I had the nurse at my doc teach me to inject my gear for my first time and she didn't aspirate my Test Injection.
Tweetyea, that is weird....i never had one do it either and didnt know the diff!!! know i know and i'll say something before the shot...

TweetI gotta be honest and say that I don't ever aspirate. Usually have no painful injects but occasionally I take a shot that hurts like I got
Hit with a sledgehammer. Lol...I'm not sure aspirating would prevent that.
I would advise to aspirate. Don't do like me. I am a risk takin kinda guy.lol Anyway, curious how many peeps here have had injection incidents???
Have heard of blood squirting across the room. Haven't heard of anything worse than that.

TweetI do it sometimes but not all the time, I agree with the posts above that we should always recommend to people to do it, because there's no reason not to do it, but I'm pretty sure if it was really that dangerous not to do it, our nurses would be doing it.
Tweetmy endo aspirated. He sucked at giving a shot, but he said he always aspirates. He's the only doc I've ever known to aspirate an IM shot.
And I believe it isn't that big of a deal, either, if you go into a little capillary. I can't explain why other than I think that most of the AS gets around the capillary because to inject into a capillary solely would take like robotic or extreme laboratory micro-accuracy. Now if you inject directly into an artery, it can be a fatal injection. I've read that the gear alone can give you a heart-attack once it reaches the heart. I had a friend, way back when we were shyt-heads, hit a vein in his leg and it put a purple streak down the side of his leg for a few days. He couldn't bend his leg for days. He said it hurt like hell. An air-bubble in the blood stream can be fatal. So, I'd say it is reckless to inject without aspiration.
Tweetwonder if that's why the cortisone shot i got last ****ed me up so bad, he didn't aspirate and it might have ended an iv injection by default
Tweeti've had blood many times countless times and reloaded as well. always a good practice to do so.
what would happen if you don't and hit a vein? i heard the gear just runs right through your system without the benefit
Tweetshyyyyytt....you aint read any of my stories????!!! dam slim...you's gotta be about the only one!!!
