Would it be possible to test some test prop powder that i got about a yr or so ago? I got it from a source, cant remember the name, it was cheap (10g for 20$), seemed to cheap to be real, and thats the reason i havent used it. Ive been wanting to figure out a way to test it to see what it really is. can anyone help on this, thanks

Goto www.chemfinder.com and look up the MP. Do a simple test at home with a hot plate and a thermometer. Record the temp when it starts to melt, and when it stops melting. Average the two and compare.

ive heard about the home test, but not too sure on how to do it, ive heard so many different things, not let it set on the plate itself and stuff like that. any more insight on this procedure? thanks

      Ya...

Few ways of doing it with somewhat accuracy.

Get a hot plate and a thermometer. Pus some foil down and place about a 50mg of powder on it. Fix a way to put the thermometer on the foil to get the temp.

Another way, use water get like a test tube on put your powder in it and place it in the water. Put thermometer in the water.

The best way is with lab equipment, they use special tubes that fit down in the machine that then has an eyepiece that you can view the enlarged sample and watch it closely.

ok sounds pretty simple, so all i do is watch for the melting of the powder at what temp it melts. the melting point for test prop is 118, so if its no where near that point, there is a good chance its not test prop. right?

exactly. record when it first starts to melt, and the when its completely melted. Average the two.

Did you ever see blow? Thats what that dude is doing with the C and flips out when its so pure.

The closer it is to the MP, the purer. Ifs its way off...then you got a problem.

ok let me get this right, im thinking of doing the water test, first i get the water put it in a pan, put the thermometer in the water and let it heat up to about 100-110 degrees, then put the powder in the tube, and put it in the water,( im going to try to rig something up so it wont touch the bottom of the pan), then start putting a little more heat under the pan while watching the powder and the thermometer at the same time, then record when it starts to melt and when it completly melts. is this correct? thanks again

Id start at about 90C (chemfinder is in C, not F)

You are correct though, just do your best looking down the tube without steam burning you.

      Uhm Billy?

Water boils at 100 deg C so it won't get hot enough to melt test prop (MP=118 deg C).

Also, make sure you give the powder sufficient time to heat up to the temperature of the surroundings before you start raising the temperature.

Could you put some Ethylene Glycol (Green stuff, auto antifreeze) in the water to raise the boiling point?

      Just a thought,

Yes, or cooking oil e.g. olive oil.
