1. what are the health risks of hitting a vein?
2. what are the odds of hitting one in the glute?
3. what ways are there to reduce the risk?
2. as for the odds, it is hard to know exactly the what the odds will be. just be careful.
3. ways to reduce the risk. always make sure the injection site has been cleaned and sterilized (alcohol swabs work really well) slowly and steadily slide the pin into the skin. ALWAYS ALWAYS aspirate (after the pin is in pull the plunger back a bit to see if any blood goes into the syringe). if it does pull out the pin and try another spot. When injecting go slow. never use a needle twice.
here is a good site that shows good pictures of spot injections www.spotinjections.com
