TweetAre you getting the fever Blisters on your lips, or side of the mouth? If so I hate to break it to you but it is a variation of Herpes and there is no cure. The Best OTC medicine is ABREVA in Blue Packaging. Prescription medicine Zovirax (Pills and or Cream) also help slow down the outbreak which is usually about 1 week until it completely goes away. There is another presciption medicine called Valtrex, generally prescribed for genital Herpes but will also help with fever Blisters/Cold Sores.

Once you get 1 you will probably get an occasional cold sore the rest of your life until there is a cure. It is a Virus. Stay away from Beer, Chocolate, coffee during an outbreak.

Some people claim to take the amino L-Lysine. The reasoning behind this is: The cold sore needs the amino Arginine for its metebolism, and Lysine counteracts Arginine.

just got some from the doc to use for prophylaxis
basically take it ed as a preventitive measure

TweetYep this is dead on - I have a friend who has the exact same shit. Just went to the doc and got some stuff when he had his first "outbreak" oh his lower lip. Isnt it pretty hard to get? I ask because at times we have been at parties together where we take shots out of the same glass. I know its most likely to be transmitted if you kiss someone who has the actual blisters. Would drinking after someone with or without blisters be highly risky? Lately I have avoided sharing shot glasses w/ people at parties. I bring my own now lol....

you can only get them when the blister is about to form in which case you cant really see it, until a couple days after its already active. once it starts drying up then you cant get it.

Tweetit's not that drastic. yes it can be a form of herpes but only in some cases. if you get them all the time then maybe the bro is right. if so see a doc of get some penicilin to keep around. i have only had a fever blister on one occasion in 45 yrs. for a blister or even a pimple. as soon as i feel it come on i dab a little ethyl alcohol on the spot every time i think about it.

The virus is kept in check by the immune system, and when it is weakened, the virus multiplys, and here comes a fever blister.

Acyclovir is the generic of Zovirax period.

Penicillin will not help. Anti Biotics do not help with a virus. What you probably had was either a Canker sore or a Pimple. Alcohol is not really a good idea to use on a cold sore. There are much better choices these days.
