No surprise that a form of biking is considered some of the best cardio on the planet.

Guys, not to be an ass, but is this a bodybuilding forum or a forum for fat house wives???

There is no place for spinning class while trying to build or at least maintain muscle.

Yes, it is a good cardio workout, but there are tons of good cardio workouts which are much less taxing on the muscles.

Do you want to look like lance armstrong???? Do you want to look like the house wife on the bike next to you???? Zero muscle and loose flabby fat which causes dimples while sitting. And when you get burned out and stop - the fat will come back with ease but you will have to earn your muscle again.

nautica: what if you do it at 65% of your Max heartrate? Wouldn't it help to tone up muscles and burn fat? Obviously spinning is much more intense, but i'm talking about overall biking at that pace...

I did it a few times. I cant stand the butch women and soccer moms in the classes. I looked around and most of them were lard asses so I quit. If I see alot of fat people doing it I usually dont do it. examples: bikes, elipticals, fad diets and most machines. The way I look at it if you can read a magazine while you do it you arent working hard enough. I go by the attitude the simpler the better. Everything that garbage makes it easier( less work). How many fatties do you see doing wieghted pullup's or dips? JMHO.

Well, I always feel a little foolish on the treadmill at the gym walking while I have these out-of-shape people next to me running. They can't tell I'm squeezing my abs or my hammies at a 7% incline, they just see this big guy walking slower than the 75 year old lady a few treadmills over!

If you want to do low intensity - that is fine. But overdoing cardio does nothing but waste muscle.
