We all get to that point where we've been working at a goal for so long and pushing our bodies for so long, that we get burnt out. The grind of meal prep, and finding time to get in all your meals during the day....along with putting in 110% in all your workouts no matter how tired you are from work. I can honestly say myself that I've had the bodybuilding blues a few times. Just dragging myself to the gym, with total lack of energy and motivation, slacking on my diet, slacking on cardio, skipping a workout, etc...The slumps can last for days, weeks, or even months...

You should always have a goal in mind....but how long can you really work towards that goal before you need a break?

What do you do to get back into it and get yourself motivated? How do you get all the cylinders firing again?

      New routine?
      New diet?
      More gear?
      Less gear?
Take a week or 2 off training?

Let's hear your strategies....it may just help out others who read this as well

I just got out of a slump after being sicker than I have been in decades (took me a month until I felt more or less human again). I slowly eased myself back into it. Two days for the first week, four days the second week, then all five days the third week with two days of cardio. Now I am back to five days a week with four days of cardio.

The slowly return method seemed to work best for me. Good topic.

I take one week off from the gym every 10-12 weeks or so...to some this may seem a bit extreme but it works like a charm for me...by the end of that week off I'm chomping at the bit to get my butt back to the gym and have a renewed ambition....and am well rested.

I am a member of multiple gyms with different atmospheres and equipment. This keeps me from getting burned out. Plus about 4 times a year I take off 4 to 6 days.

I do the same thing. Switching gyms helps me tremendously. Sometimes the new atmosphere and different equipment are all I need to get that hunger back. Other times it takes a little more if I find myself in a big slump. Times like that, I'll usually take a few days off and regroup. Change up my routine, realign my diet and just spend some time thinking back to the beginning. Way back when I first started lifting. The passion, drive, and motivation I had back then. Sometimes I have to reach deep down, but I can always find that old hunger.

This has been a very common answer when I asked this on other forums. I'm certainly going to look into that. New atmosphere, new equipment, and new females to impress

Getting on iTunes and downloading a new playlist of songs to workout to always helps. I Shazam songs when I like them and wait until I have like 12-15 and make a new playlist.

Change up your diet is always a way to fix. Depending on what your slump is adding fats, taking a break from strict dieting and increasing calories or vise versa dropping calories.

Yep, switching up my tunes helps a lot. It may seem like a small thing, but it's crazy how big of an effect music can have on your mood.
