TweetWell went to my primary care doc and he said it looks like one. He referred me to someone else who I have an appointment with on Wednesday, so will keep you updated. Hopefully all is good.
TweetWell it's confirmed an inguinal hernia. Have surgery scheduled this Wednesday. He said surgery isn't always a necessity with hernias and you can certainly watch and wait, but with my lifestyle in the gym it will most likely get worse gradually over time. I can feel it when I lift and it aches a lot, so I think it's best for me to just get it fixed.
I'm going to start a log on the surgery and update it as I go through the recovery, so anyone else that may be facing this can at least get an idea of what my experience is. I did the same thing with my gyno surgery a few years ago for anyone that may be going through that as well.
Tweetwhat happened for you to get checked for this man?

TweetGood luck with the surgery. I have an umbilical hernia. My belly button popped out. It hurt pretty bad for about a year and I kept having to push my innards back in when they would pop out through my belly button. It seems like it has healed up alright.
TweetThose are the things that its good to have health insurance. When Obama took over, I had to kiss my health insurance goodbye. Aint had health insurance ever since. Now I have a hernia with my intestines sticking out thru my belly button that I cant afford to get fixed. Thanks Obama.

TweetI can actually pinpoint it to a specific event. I picked my wife up in the kitchen a while back playing around and I felt my whole abdominal area pull. It hurt more than I figured it should and I remember thinking, "Damn it, I hope I didn't tear something." Over the next couple weeks it started aching in my lower abs and I could feel it while working out. One day at work it felt like I sat on my left ball wrong and was hurting pretty bad. I was just palpating around down there that evening and that's when I felt it. I could feel it push back against my fingers when I coughed. I pretty much knew what it was and hoped I was wrong until the doc said yep that's it.
Sucks, it'll be 4-6 weeks out of the gym then light duty as I get back into it. I know I'm gonna go stir crazy, but honestly the time off will probably do my body good. I'm stubborn as hell and don't take as much rest as I probably should, so this kinda forces me to slow down. Come back bigger and badder in the long run. I keep messing with my wife and telling her after 20 years of training my ass off, I get a hernia picking her butt up. She just reminds me who's gonna be taking care of me when I need things those first few days lol.
TweetYeah, definitely need to keep an eye on it bro. They call it a strangulated hernia, when it pops out and gets stuck. The doc said it's a small percent chance, but possible.Originally Posted by Dzone
