I can not do lifting and cardio in the same workout. I am simply too wasted after doing either to give the other the intensity it requires. So I split them with sleep ... 1 when I wake up and 1 before bed. What are your thoughts on splitting cardio and lifting into two separate workouts a day??

Great idea. I would do that if I could but family time is scarce.

I'm actually starting to split mine up too. Doing cardio first thing in the morning and lifting in the evenings. For the longest time I kept trying to cram them both together in the evening. Kept me at the gym forever and put me home really late. (Which the wife hated) Now I'm getting up a little earlier and doing cardio in the mornings. Cuts my gym time in the evenings in half, so I get home much earlier. Working great so far. I even feel much better getting my day started after morning cardio.

When I lift it is not to gain mass but to just maintain strength so I can do cardio after. Or I just do cardio by itself but never just lift by itself.

When you split, do you switch up time of day as well? C. AM / L. PM and vice versa.

I understand that. I have my son most weekends which excludes me from the gym on those days for father-son time. We do the best we can with what we got brother.

i think you are good until you get to that point where body fat is so low that it makes a big difference. i say more so in the off season when not trying to get or stay ultra lean you are better off with hitting weights well before doing cardio. that way you are able to hammer your muscle the best with the most fuel possible. can it be done with an early am session of cardio? hell yeah but i still think it is going to have an impact on your training later on in the day as well

I know most of the people on here workout the "traditional " but since I've been doing hiit workouts, Crossfit workouts...etc...my time at the gym is only about an hour. On the weekends I still do the cardio...weights...etc.
give the hiit training a try once or twice a week to feel it out. It will give your metabolism a shot in the ass
