Kamilla Barrett and the rest of the Ozark High School Class of 2017 celebrated its graduation with a trip to Silver Dollar City.
The students partook in the classic theme park dishes, like Lumbercamp Falls skillets, tornado potato skewers and salt water taffy.
But Barrett had to decline.
Barrett was in the thick of her training and passed on the frontier-inspired fried food in favor of tilapia and vegetables that she had packed herself in the morning.
Weeks of intense training — and saying no to funnel cake — paid off for Barrett last month when she won her division at the National Physique Committee Junior National Bodybuilding Championships in Chicago.
"It definitely gets hard only eating the same stuff every day," Barrett said. "But it is definitely worth it in the end."
Barrett, 18, is one of the youngest women ever to earn her International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness bikini pro card. She can now compete at professional shows to earn cash and sponsorships.
After the competition in Chicago, Barrett said she had a big cheat meal at Giordano's Pizza, but she is now back to clean eating.
Barrett, who works the front desk at Genesis Health Clubs in Springfield, works out six days a week.
She said she has been going to the gym her whole life, but she never really thought about bodybuilding until a couple of years ago when a friend suggested she try it.
Now, Barrett is hooked.
"Everyone else who is in it all have the same love for weightlifting and fitness in general," Barrett said. "It was fun, not only the weightlifting aspect but getting to dress up and be on stage was really fun, too."
Barrett is taking classes at Ozarks Technical Community College this fall, and she has aspirations of someday becoming a radiologist.
In the meantime, however, Barrett is looking for a professional bodybuilding competition to enter next year and dreaming of someday making it to the Olympia in Las Vegas.
